Clair Durkes 2nd grade teacher

Experience:  3rd year at De Duprey; 7 years teaching overall

Education: BA from Northwestern in political science and masters in education from National Louis University; National Board Certifiication in literacy.

Why does she work at De Duprey?:  “We have a dedicated group of teachers here who are actively trying to improve.”

What’s her teaching approach?:  “Hands-on, from a science standpoint.”  She did a lesson last year with composting and worms, and kids “were much more invested because it was hands-on.”  She also designed a year-long science unit about conservation and alternative energies.

What about her personal life?: She’s from Evanston and currently lives in Ravenswood.  She enjoyes reading, sewing and arts and crafts.
